This monograph presents some of the extraordinary
photographs Beth Yarnelle Edwards has made in American and European
suburbs. She collaborates with her subjects to present them in the
familiar environments of their choosing. The work is sympathetic but
sometimes imbued with humor or mystery. She sees it, she says, as an
extension of 17th Century Dutch genre painting.
Her work been exhibited in solo shows in the US,
France, Belgium, Iceland, Spain, Germany, China and elsewhere. It is in
the collections of such museums as SFMoMA; LACMA; Museum of Fine Arts,
Houston; Mus e de la Photographie Charleroi, Belgium; Biblioteque National de France. She has won such awards as the Santa Fe Center for Photography (now Center), Project Competition Winner; Gran Prix, Salon International de la Recherche Photographique, Royan, France; and the Gerbode Foundation Visual Arts Award and her work has appeared in The New Yorker; Harper's; O, The Oprah Magazine; AdBusters; European Photography, (Germany) and many others.
